Sephira Guidelines
Question
Would the Rav please provide us with a few guidelines regarding Sephira? 1) Is it permitted to listen to live music during Sephira? 2) Are all social gatherings "parties"? 3) Is it permitted to attend birthday parties or any other excuse to get together and have a drink? Does it matter how many people are in attendance? 4) While I know the Rav would prohibit attending movies as a general proposition, is it specifically prohibited during Sephira? 5) Does it matter how many people are at the movie theater or how many people you attend with? 6) Are live shows like broadway plays prohibited? 7) If you hear live music through a sound system with microphones and speakers and not from the instruments themselves does it still count as live music? 8) Does live a'capella (just voices & no instruments) count as live music? 9) Are any other activities (besides shaving) prohibited during Sephira? 10) Is it permitted to purchase and wear new clothes during Sephira? 11) Is it permitted to launder and wear laundered clothing during Sephira? 12) Are haircuts permitted during Sephira? 13) Are haircuts permitted on Rosh Chodesh if one holds the first days of the Omer? 14) Is dancing permitted during Sephira to live music? 15) Is dancing permitted during Sephira to recorded music? 16) Must we be as strict about Sephira as with shloshim (the 30 days after one loses an immediate family member G-d forbid). Thank you!
