shatnez checking

Question

My gut tells me that we are being told to check garments for Shatnez more than need be. Where I live it costs 8$ to check a suit, as well as a few days wait (time can be money when, e.g., if you need a suit quickly for a wedding or job interview). In my 20 years of getting garments checked, I never had a US/Canadian made suit with Shatnez, and I had maybe 5 garments with shatnez otherwise. One would think that there is a miut shebmiut here upon which one could rely. 1) Must one check American/Canadian made suits? What about from other countries? 2) Do you have any advice on how consumers of official Shatnez checking orginization could demand release of shtnez-incidence data. Give us the numbers and let us decide if we want to check! (As I write this I smile at how naive I sound).
