Shbbat-electricity

Question

None of the rabbis I have asked are able to give me a convincing reason as to why electricity is forbidden on Shabbat. I am not saying it should be permitted, I just want to know why it is forbidden.

I'm with you on that! If it is forbidden, is it De'Oraita?! Which Melachah. Do not take this as permission to use electric on Shabbat, but I've always had the same question. AA
