smoker from the trash

Question

I've found a smoker in the trash and wanted to know if and how it can be kashered. A smoker is a made up of: a cylinder measuring two feet in height and 16 inches in diameter, a grill (which was not included in the metzieh),a domed lid, and two pans. Both of the pans are suspended inside the cylinder - the bottom one holds charcoal and the top one is approximately 5 inches above the bottom one and 4 inches below the grill and it holds water for creating steam. The water pan's other purpose is to catch the drippings from the food being cooked onthe grill. All the parts are steel with a tough, black coating of what I think is some sort of enamel. I worry about the fact that smokers are not meant to reach temperatures of higher than 250 degrees and that there is a steaming water pan in it which spreads the smoke and the vapour all over the inside of the smoker. The entire inside and part of the outside of the smoker, especially inside the dome and around the rim of the cylinder, are coverd by a tough, sooty, and greasy build-up.
