Soup kitchens

Question

I don't have very much money, and buying certified kosher food, which can be quite expensive, presents a problem for me. I've been very hungry, and since I can't afford to buy food, kosher or not, I am thinking of going to a soup kitchen, which is sure to be treif. Is it better that I starve than go to this place, or could I go and just eat some bread? Please let me know.

Eat the bread & find out if the soup is only Kosher ingredients. Often they are OK. You can also go to an Kosher organization to help you with this. The Met Council or a JCC. Good luck. Email me and I'll help you find some good resources. There's too many Mercedes at the Shuls, you shouldn't go hungry. AA
