Standing for Kiddush on Shabbat and Yom Tov

Question

My question revolves around standing for Kiddush. In my family growing up at night, for Shabbat and Yom Tov we always stood for the entire kiddush and drank the grape juice or wine standing as well. At lunch time we always sat. I have heard various comments you are allowed to stand for the brachot but you must sit to drink the wine. I have also heard you can only stand until Borei Prei Hagefen and then you must sit for the second Bracha and of course sit to drink the wine. What is the correct method? Does it differ between Shabbat and Yom Tov? If there is a minhag in your family as I stated earlier does the minhag apply or is this a halachic issue that I might be standing inappropriately and I should change?
