Sunnyvale Whole Foods
Question
I purchased a bread from a company based in the UK called Everfresh Natural Foods. The ingrediants list whole wheat kernels, dates, and cinnamon. I am worried that they may have lined the pans with some other ingredient as there is no hashgacha. As well, I like the fact that you use common sense on all these topics, but what about the point that whatever one eats has a spiritual effect on oneself, and if one eats something which isn't kosher, it can have a negative affect on ones spiritulaity and make them insensitive to "Ruchnius" and other spiritual matters. Remember the story with the Rambam and the Jews of Yemen whose butcher's knife wasn't sharp enough hence their Rabbi was asking many off beat questions. The Rambam said that they should ckeck their knife and sure enough... Please let me know, as this is a serious matter. I like to be "normal" as well and don't go for the "overboard" approach. But the above issue still gnaws at me for further clarification.
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiIs that the only ingredients? It's hard to believe! The issue that you are discussing only affects a situation where in Halachah you are not permitted to eat something. If the Halachah says it is Kosher, it cannot have a negative effect spiritually. We do not have two separate sets of rules, one halachah, and one spiritual. This is contrary to everything that our religion represents. It must work together as a team, the law and the spirituality. What the law says is good, provides a positive effect, and what is bad, a negative. Good question! AA
