Dear Suri, Solomon and Aaron, You may find this difficult to believe, but thirty years ago we had no OU, no yeshivot (day schools), no kosher restaurants or caterers and none of the chumrot that all of the "new" rabbis have "discovered". We did however have Rabbi Yitzcack Abadi as a posek, great tight knit communities and we all managed to eat strictly kosher, keep Shabbat without all the heterim that you see "frum" people taking today (that make it hard to tell the difference between Shabbat and a weekdays) and of course, in spite of the fact that the mikvoth of the day were not "state of the art", there was no Artscroll press, kallah teachers or Bais Yaakovs, our mothers managed to keep Jewish family laws. However, what we did not EVER see, in those days is the irreverance and disrespect for a Rabbi that I have seen today and that I am seeing on this website. No one is forcing you to log into this website and no one is telling you to hold by it. The reality is that the majority of MY community does and always has held by Rabbi Abadi's rulings. Your disrespect toward a posek is unbelievable on one level but how about the slander against the Sephardic Rabbinical tradition and the community in general?? Rabbi Abadis halacha guides and Pesah lists are distributed to and relied upon by the members of virtually every Sephardic synagogue I have ever attended!! Countless Sephardic Rabbis worldwide consider Rabbi Abadi beyond reproach, period, as do their families and kehillot. For your own information, there is not and never has been a history of a Reform or Conservative movement within the Sephardic tradition. This is exclusively the backlash against a medieval cousin of Judaism that crucifies (and I chose that word intentionally) anyone who expresses an opinion that rattles the "establishment" or interferes with its income producing venues. Perhaps a great strength of our Sephardic tradition is that so many of our great Rabbis supported themselves via businesses independent of the Rabbinate. Your little "auto de fe" does not belong on a website in which a respected and revered posek is kindly answering questions of halacha for those of his community who rely on his psak. I would be very interested to meet the parents and Rabbis that raised and educated the three of you. Kibud Av v'Em goes far beyond not sitting in your father's chair.
