Techeilet Continued

Question

Re Elie's posting on Techeilet. The researchers at YU who claim to have found the biblical techeilet identify the ink of the murex and ilex snails as the source. the are,in fact, the well known source of the famous Tyrean Purple (actually blue) dye used by the ancients. The YU guys are almost certainly correct. The key word, however, is "almost". Since we have, nebach, lost the mesorah, no one can be mei'id (give testimony) that this stuff is the techeilet of which the Torah speaks. So my question is: Since techeilet is not m'akiv, which is why we are still mekayim the mitzva with plain tzitzit, is wearing the erzatz techeilet any worse than wearing plain white tzitizit?

It's not the true Techelet! Period! There are many requirements and characteristics that are not met by this fish (which isn't even a fish) AA
