God's Torah empowered the rabbis with limited legislative authority, that gives rabbinic law the same status as a decree handed down on Sinai. The discussion really stops here. The rabbis said "do not eat in a restaurant without hashgacha" so that's the end of the story. AA SAID: If the soup is cooked in a Treif pot, it's Noten Taam Lifgam, because Stam Keilim Ainum Beney Yomam.Additionally Anan Sahady that the Keili was washed with soap and hot water &certainly the Bliot are Pagum, and also we do not taste the beef in our pumkin soup, if we did, the restaurant would go out of business real quick. MY RABBI SAID: Good. But it's still assur lichathilah to eat food cooked in an aino ben yomo.. That means, "no eating food cooked in a non kosher pot, regardless of how long ago the pot was used, or how well it was washed." Furthermore, how can you possibly say that a resteraunt pot is an aino ben yomo? They cook in resteraunts all day and all night long, and unless you are in the kitchen, you have no idea what went into the pot. AA SAID: Onions are not Davar Charif. MY RABBI SAID: They certainly are, re: causing problems if cut with a non kosher knife. AA SAID: I didn't ask you to go eat in a non-kosher restaurant. I'm helping those of us that need to. MY RABBI SAID: This advice, if not given with much more explanation and proper detail, is false and misleading.
