Question

I have noticed a lot of discussion on this, and was wondering why? Surely the application of this is something Hashem will decide when he judges the people in question, not anything we have a say in. Why do we spend the time to debate subjects such as these that are totally in the realm of heaven? Surely there are more practical halachot need illumination. Thank you, and no disrespect is in any way intended.
