toggle switch
Question
My front door has a toggle switch for the alarm. When the alarm is on I can switch the toggle off and it bypasses the door so I can open it without triggering the alarm. From what I understand, there is a circuit continously going through the wires and when you open the door it breaks the circuit and triggers the alarm. the toggle reroutes the circuit slightly so instead of going through the door contact it goes right through the toggle instead so that when you open the door you do not effect the circuit. Moving the toggle does not activate any lights or electric components it simply moves a conducting wire to allow the circuit to take a different route. Now the question: Am I allowed to switch it on or off on Shabbat?
