Treif Fat

Question

If I understand correctly (and correct me if I am wrong), since fat of a non kosher or treif animal (pigs spefically) may be used in a kosher product to add flavoring, stability, shelf life, etc. because it is not edible in itself and therefore can not take on the charachteristics (sp) of an edible product. I am taking this from your answers regarding Oreo marshmallows, Dannon yogurt, etc. Do not most poskim hold that if you know that the company is specifically using this treif animal fat then it is assur.
