Women in Fasts
Question
It is my understanding (told to me by many many women, and men), that women in Europe did not fast on fast days. I understand that the previous generation was more dedicated to serving God than i will ever be. Is it, then, proper conduct for a lady not to fast? Thank you so much
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiThe excuse of "the previous generation was more dedicated to serving God than i will ever be" will not get you out following the rules to the letter. Fasting on Yom Kippur & Tisha BeAv is an absolute requirement. The other fast days are more lenient. If you don't fast well, you can eat on those days. There has been extreme assimilation (undone by Hitler) in Europe in the previous generations. I'm not sure what you're basing your comments on anyway. AA
