Yeast again
Question
HaRav, You say that Seor is yeast made from the five grains. I believe that there is a problem with your answer. As I mentioned in my message...yeast is a living organism. It does not come from anything else. It lives in the air and occurs on food, but it does not come from any food. Wet yeast is living yeast, dry yeast is just living yeast that has been suspended and is "brought back to life" through warm water. There is no yeast that comes from chametz as the Rav says. Yeast that lives on the five grains is activated when mixed with water and creates (sourdough). Even wheat that is washed of all the yeast will eventually rise due to the nature of the grain, but the yeast is a different issue. I think more research needs to be done on this topic. Concerning kamut...I looked it up on the web and it is an ancient relative of durham wheat native to Egypt, Eretz Israel, and Iraq. The Rav can read all about it on www.kamut.com/index2.html Kol tuv and chag sameach!
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiThe Seor in the pAssuk is refering to the fermented bread that they would throw into the dough to bring it to rise. That, and only that, is Seor. AA
