Alcoholic drinks

Dear Rabbi, F.Y.I. To see what the OU are saying about the Kashrut status of alcoholic drinks, go to http://www.ou.org/publications/ja/ in the Departments section entitled KosherKopy. I think you will find it amusing. My Rav ( An OU Rabbi, and a contributing editor to Jewish Action) commented "The only part that makes sense to me is that bourbon is kosher. I have no idea what he means in most of the other crucial areas. It's enough to make a man turn to drink..." Cheers, Martin

Answered by Aaron AbadiI read it and it is full of OU "policies" and misconceptions. Halachah is not the deciding factor any longer. It is a shame, because I remember Rabbi Juravel from Lakewood and I am surprised that he doesn't know basics. Like that wine is Batel (rendered insignificant) in six parts not sixty. People don't accept this, because they cannot understand it. He must not realize that whey is not edible. He uses the term inedible to a dog, but that is not required in most cases. What a shame! Instead of Halachah, it has been replaced with OU company policy. All the other Certification agencies must follow the "OU Policy," or else their products will not be accepted by OU certified vendors. What a "MAFIA!" Drink Kahlua! AA
