Appliances on Shabbos

Question

If I've got a lamp plugged into a shabbos timer and the lamp is currently off, can I pull out the lamp and plug in an electric heater (or any other appliance I deem necessary) so that it will go on when the shabbos timer turns it on? Thank you very much
