Baby Cereal on Peseach
Question
My sister is visiting for Pesach. She and her husband are not observant and her husband has a hard time with all of our "rules." They have a baby who is 9 months old, who they have started feeding baby cereal and baby food, but no table food. Their doctor tells them that the baby is getting most of her nutrition from baby cereal. I can find no kosher l'peseach baby cereal. My sister wants to feed her baby Rice based baby cereal on peasch, but I am unsure if this is acceptable. Are there any cereal's, rice based or otherwise that I can offer them?
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiHook her husband up with this website. He'll have an easier time with the rules. Check out our Pesach List. Babies do not keep the custom of Kitniyot. It would be a crime to deprive a little baby of it's normal diet, just to force this custom on it. The same goes for old and/or sick people. Obese people on special macrobitic diets should certainly eat Kitniyot. AA
