beards
Question
In one of your replis you write that R. Aharon Kotler wouldn't allow the guys to grow beards until it was necessary. Why did he think it was wrong for yeshiva bachurim to have beards? Also, when was it considered "necessary" for them to have beards? Did R. Aharon also permit them to use electric shavers? Thank you.
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiRav Aharon certainly did not object to anyone using an electric shaver, even the boys in the Yeshiva. The Custom by the Lithuanian Jews was not to grow a beard. Certainly growing a beard would have also caused problems for Shidduchim (finding a wife), too. Rav Aharon's own son did not grow a beard until six or seven years after he was married. AA
