black clothing
Question
to the best of my knowledge, black clothing became the semi-official dress for two reasons. One, the goyim forbade us to wear bright colors. Two, before dry cleaning, black clothing hid most dirt and stains. DW
Answer
Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiWhen did the Goyim forbid us to wear colored? It is written that a person who does not want to lead the davening as the Chazan, because he is wearing colored, cannot be the Chazan for that tefilla, even though he changed his mind. The reason given, is because he may have had a thought of apikorses. I think the explanation is, that whatever color you are wearing is irrelevant to Hashem.
