cakes, utensils, and cereals
Question
Hi RAbbi -- great service...can't heap enough praise on you!! 3 quick questions if you don't mind: 1) In a past post you said we could eat cake at a non-kosher restaurant if we saw the ingredients...Is there any possible ingredient in a standard choclate/apple cake we should worry about?? I'm assuming cheese cakes would be a bigger problem in terms of gevinat akum... 2) I read that you would allow using the cutlery at a non-kosher house (eating kosher food of course)if it is clean.....I was wondering if the same would apply with a cafateria...There is a non-kosher section and kosher section...The cutlery is used to eat pork, cheesburgers, everything...The cutlery is however always cleaned very well through those industrial strength cleaners that they have in big kitchens....Would it be ok to use that cutlery (I'm afraid I may have taken your teshuva about the cutlery at the non-kosher house and I wanted to clarify) This isn't a pressing issue, we use plastic-ware, however, I was curious if we can use the cutlery....It would be slightly easier, but not a big deal at all...I was wondering more hypothetically... 3) Lastly -- About the dishwasher, i read through your Q and A's, I was wondering if you could point me quickly to a source -- I'm having a mini-debate with my ashkenaz roomate about it....its important for us b/c a meat/dairy dishwasher is very good for halving the amount of dirty dishes piled up very high....) anyway, thanks a lot rabbi, as always, i really appreciate the time you put in to this
