Corn

Question

I don't understand your point regarding corn not being kitniyot. If this was a rabbinic gezerah then what you say would be indisputable. But kitniyot is a minhag, and if you want to know what the minhag is all you need to do is look at what the people are doing. When you do so you find that they are indeed avoiding corn and thus treating it as kitniyot. Granted, the custom has expanded over the years to include more things, but why don't you regard this as also part of the minhag? Isn't the minhag by definition what the "olam" is doing (and this "olam" is not simply the ignorant people, but also the rabbis)?

This is a Minhag that was relevant in its time. It would not be needed today. The only aspect of the Minhag that would apply today would be the original Minhag. Not everything people do, get's the status of Minhag. Only Minhag Kadmonim made for real reasons. Just adding and doing things, does not give it the status of a Minhag. AA
