Counting Jews

Question

Is it permitted to count Jews? For example, if I am leading a groiup of kids on a trip, and before we leave to go home, I couint them to make sure that I haven't forgotten any? Or let's say I couint the men to see if we have ten for a minyan?

Count the hats or count them in another way. You shouldn't count them regularly. AA
