dishwasher
Question
Dear Rabbi, I was speaking to somone who was arguing that one can't use a dishwasher for both meat and milk dishes (using seperate loads) b/c the hot water in the dishwasher essentially cooks the meat and milk thus causing a problem of bishul basar & chalav, and "treifing" up the dishwasher. What should my response to this issue be (aside from saying that that's what my rabbis says - which is good enough for me but not, obviously, good enough for this person). Thanks for the help!

Answered by Aaron AbadiThere are a hundred responses, and their all right, but this guy won't accept anything anyway. He's saying reasons that seem like he's ready for a discussion, but what he's really saying is, "how can you present a law that we don't do?!" If his system was right, there would not be Rabbis, because they would just be parrots. My personal response would be, "Polly want a cracker?" But if that doesn't fly, try asking him if he or any of his family members ever took a shower with at some point only the hot water was on. Chances are he'll say yes, or have him ask the others. Many people like it for a few minutes on full hot. It's hot, but you can stay in there. Well if yes, then clearly the hot water can't be "Yad Soledet Bo." There's no way you can have Yad Soledet Bo water on your naked body, without adding some cold. So how can it ever be considered cooking. He'll give you some answer, he's trained to do that. Then ask him if the soap destroys the Bliahs (absorbed taste). & then get a better hobby than talking to nuts. He could always look at the various Teshuvot in Igrot Moshe on this. AA
