eating at mom's house

Question

Kavod Harav, My mother does not keep kosher. The family is planning on getting together at the end of November for a big meal. My mom buys a Glaat kosher turkey, and she is careful to then buy ingredients that are kosher, and not halav. My wife is concerned about my mom's oven having cooked treifa, and she concerned with her plates and silverware as well. I know you've answered this question many times, but if you could summarize the various issues and the respective halachot, I can present then present this to my wife so we may eat with my mother, and not violate kashrut. I want not only to be able ask my mother to do things properly so we may eat with her, but I also want my wife to be completely comfortable in order to maintain shalom bayit as well. Thank you so much for your tremendous work.

Your mother can cook it in her oven, which I assume is relatively clean, on an aluminum foil pan, or in a turkey bag. The plates are glazed and are OK. The silverware needs to be Toveled (dipped in a Mikveh) or use plastic. The glasses are fine. If you nosey around in the kitchen, she certainly won't want to get caught using anything non-kosher, and there isn't much that she can put into turkey. Butter would be real easy to taste. You don't need to worry. Cake you can eat if no cheese in it. Come early and be around at the end of the cooking process, and you'll see what goes in the food. AA
