eruv
Question
What don't you like about "city eruvs?" Is that different from the eruv in Cedarhurst? What about the eruv in Wesley Hills that everyone from Rabbi Willig to Rabbi Rottenberg has okayed?
Answer
Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiI don't know which city eruv you are discussing. However, my father holds that a city can have an eruv. The problem is how to make an eruv in a city. A gated city would have no problem. A city with doors on all big streets at the entrance to the city, would also qualify. The fact being that this rarely happens, for financial reassons. It would be too prohibitive. In the days of the past where we find some cities had an eruv, that was, possibly, because they had one way in one way out and they did it according to all the shitos, hopefully. Did we say that any eruv in any city was not good? It could very well be that some eruvin are kosher. I dunno. CYA
