Eruv

Question

Why can't we all just stop kvetching about eruvim and observe the Torah as it was intended. Did the Jews in the midbar have an eruv? Did the Rabbis in the Talmud have eruvim? No, they simply abstained from carrying objects in and out of their houses on Shabbat, as Hashem commanded. At this point, the fact that carrying is the 39th melacha has practically disappeared from the public consciousness and all the sugyot - nearly half of masechet Shabbat - have been rendered obsolete by those who insist upon placing convenience over halacha. I know because whenever I have taught the beginning of Masechet Shabbat, which speaks about carrying, people act as if I'm telling them some kind of joke and sit staring at me with these satisfied smirks on their faces. When they hear that I don't rely on the local eruv, they look at me with a combination of shock and horror so intense that you would have thought I just arrived here from another planet. Let's stop dictating our terms to Hashem and start listening to His mitzvot.
