Fasting when pregnant
Question
Does a pregnant woman have to fast on Tisha B"Av? What about Yom Kippur if she will be in her 9th month? Thank you
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiTisha BeAv & Yom Kippur are the only fast days that a pregnant woman must keep, however often a pregnant woman can eat due to the risks that exist. Each woman should ask their doctor and then pass his opinion directly to her Rabbi for a decision. In the worst scenario, even on Yom Kippur, the most a woman would need to eat to avoid a health risk is like 12 ounces of gatorade which can be taken in small amounts every few minutes to at least be less than the Shiur (defined measurement). But as I said, each woman should discuss it with their doctor and then ask their Rabbi what to do. AA
