Still is... Perfect for the "Four Cups!" AA As Joseph pointed out, it seems as though when we were children, it was common knowledge that Welchs (I think that was all there was) was kosher. Somehow this got hijacked by the OU in the early '70's. I began to get suspicious when trying to make sure that Kedem Organic really had no sulfites added (I have sulfite induced asthma). I figured that I would speak to the Mashgiah and that he would give me an honest answer. Of course, there WAS no Mashgiah and at the time Kedem was made in the Welchs plant. Hmmmmm. I wondered how this was different from the plain old Welchs we had as children. The answer of course is that it is not different and it never was except for the price and the label. So much of this is so difficult to accept, especially when we find out that for years we have been paying triple, and going to a separate store to buy something that was always kosher everywhere all along. What is even more difficult to accept is that other staples of our homes such as cottage cheese and cream cheese that we assumed WERE kosher with an OU have not been. Do anyone know if the OU is going to change their supervision of cottage cheese and cream cheese?
