Hashgacha
Question
Some of these posts got me remembering. Several years ago there was a scandal that one of the babyfood company's apple juice( I think Beechnut)didn't contain any apple juice, just sugar water. It seems that somewhere (probably the supplier) pulled a fast one. I'm pretty sure that the juice had a "reliable" hashgacha. I always wondered how careful the hashgacha at either the food company or the supplier, could be if they didn't notice the lack of apple juice in the apple juice. If they did notice would they be halachically required to tell if the sugar concentrate was "kosher". ??

Answered by Aaron AbadiThe Hashgachas don't really check much. Most can be fooled by taking them to a lumber yard and saying, "this is the plant." If these items actually needed a Hashgacha, these people would certainly not be reliable. Aaron Abadi
