hashgachot
Question
Rabbi, just so we are in the know -- What type of foods DO require a hashgacha, if any. secondly, a few omer questions... What is the Halacha about music/other customs of avelut on the Omer? How about a comedy show? How about the schtick part of a shabbaton? What are the guidelines for things of this sort? thanks a billion again for your time and effort...I can't tell you how much it is appreciated...
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiFoods that require a Hashgachah are: Meat, chicken, turkey etc. prepared foods that are not packaged with ingredients. Cheese or items with cheese. Restaurants I'm sure that I missed a few scenarios, but I'm sure you get the idea. The main foods that do not require a Hashgachah are packaged items with ingredients on it, because it tells us what's in there. Music is technically prohibited all year due to the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash. Contrary to popular opinion, this restriction includes only singing. The specific period of mourning during the earlier part of Sefira is to refrain from making parties with live music; weddings, bar Mitzvahs, etc. It cannot prohibit music, because it is already prohibited throughout the year. Music is permitted when the circumstance requires it. If someone is sad, or children in a car, and many similar situations it is OK. Also classical music is not a problem. Comedy show is certainly not for the first part of the Omer, but a Shabbaton should not change. Aaron Abadi
