ingredients of foregin manufacturer

Question

given the fact that one can rely on ingredients for kashrut - provided he / she understands them - based upon the fact that US government regulators monitor contents very carefully, does the same hold true for foods that were manufactured in foreign countries and then imported into the US?

Within reason. If it is a normal product sold in stores that is imported through normal channels, yes. If it is some bogus stuff smuggled in from China and sold on the black market, no. AA
