kashering
Question
We don't kasher an oven between milk and meat??? Sonny, unless you're taking precautians (ie: double wrapping) you're not allowed to use the same oven for milk and meat!!!
Answer
Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiOh, I didn't know that. Why not? CYA CYA, are you joking?? The issue is STEAM. That's why, as I said, you can't cook meat and milk in the same oven unless you take precautians. What are the precautians? Here they are: Rabbi Moshe Feinstein (Iggrot Moshe YD 40), following the suggestion of the Pri Megadim, says you can cook meat immediately after milk once the oven cools down, IF both items are solid, or IF one of them is covered. Otherwise, you need to wait 24 hours, and clean the oven. At the very least (following the Aruch Hashulchan, and Rav H. Shachter) you need to check to be sure the oven is clean.
