Question

Yoreh Deah 89:4 uses the word asur concerning the need to change the tablecloth for meat and milk. I thought that this was only a custom? What's the deal?

First of all, maybe it's not just a custom. Second, the word Assur is often used for established customs. In reality, the Halachah is refering to a situation where the food is put directly on the cloth. In our society where there are plates & bowls it is just a Minhag..... AA
