Kavod Harav,recently i picked up a book my son was reading because the cover caught my attention.It depicted a boy flying on some sort of broomstick.I looked at the backflap for a quick synopsis,and it seems the story is about a boy who goes to a school of witchcraft to learn about it,and has various encounters with witches and so on.I told my son its against jewish law this practice of magic and took it away.He said at least half his class has read this book,and his rabbi knew and didn't say anything,my question rabbi is,are these books allowed to be read,and if not shouldn't the teachers say something?

Answered by Aaron AbadiIt's not real "Kishuf." It's just some imaginary world of witches and witchcraft. It is certainly better not to read any of this stuff. But in our society, this is probably the cleanest stuff that is being read. You need to make a judgment call here. AA
