Thank you for answering me right before Shabbos! It cut the misery of being away from home in half as I was able to have a good hot meal on Shabbos. If you can, please elaborate on your P'sak. Why is this considered cooking in the sun & not cooking in a "Tolda" of the sun which is forbiden on Shabbos? Also, what about Makeh B'patish? As always, we appreciate your explanations!! Chaim

Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiYour welcome The Halcha of a toldas chama vs chama, is that we are afraid you will confuse something that was heated by the sun with something that was heated by a fire and then you use that something to cook food. However, to cook with the sun directly by placing the food in the sun, is permitted. The distributor showed us at my father's house, the chemical reaction that happens in the Labriute meals. The water that mixes with the other chemicals becomes one. It then gives off heat like the sun or a fire. A fire would be assur because that is the norm, but the sun is not the norm and is therefore muttar. The same is with the water mixture that gives off heat. If you would use that water to heat a pot, then you would not be able to use that pot to heat food. Because that would again be toldas (chama) water mixture. In reference to the Makeh B'patish question, my father said it does not fit into that. But, I still didn't get it clear, so Iwill wait till then and add it to this post. CYA
