Question
What does the halacha permit us to eat at a treif resteraunt? I'm being dragged to one next week, and I'd like to know if the salads and beverages are permissible, and what, if any, qualifications might apply?

Answered by Aaron AbadiSalads are often a problem at kosher restaurants. You can order bread, pancakes, smoked salmon (lox), tuna salad, creamy Pumpkin soup, cream of corn soup, Onion Soup-hold the cheese, (on the soups, ask waiter to find out if any animal fat or cheese) Have them cut vegetables for you. cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, roasted peppers, olives, pickles, celery, onion, baby corns, green beans, carrots, etc... Use a Kosher dressing, or olive oil, or ask for ketchup & mayo mixed together. Chumus & Techina Flatbreads (no cheese) Jello, pudding, ice cream, any soft drinks. Fruits Whip Cream Toast & Butter Bagel & lox Coffees, espresso, etc.. with steamed milk & cream, & flavorings Guacamole, Whatever has no animal fat, meat, or cheese is OK, except for the problem of Bishul Akum, cooking of a non-Jew. Items that are regularly eaten raw, are not a problem & foods that are not fit to serve on a King's table. Like popcorn, for example. Peas & carrots cooked, And more AA
