Learning
Question
Do you think studying daf yomi is a good idea for most people? It covers a lot of ground with minimal pilpul, tosafot, etc. and is beneficial for familiarizing oneself with the basic sugyot in shas. Is it too superficial to spend one's time on it? Also, is it useful to study things that most people neglect, like Yerushalmi, Tosefta, etc., or should we leave those things for the gedolim and focus on the basics?
Answer
Answered by Rabbi AbadiYou should learn every Sefer around that was written by legitimate people. We only live to about 100 years, and don't have the time to cover that amount of information. So we start with the most relevant and most important and we work our way through, to get to as far as we can. Number one is to know all the practical laws that apply to our daily lives (see Hakdamah to the Mishneh Berura). And also to study Tana"ch & some Mussar. Once you know all that well, email me and I'll give you a format of what to learn.
