Mezuzah and hot water

Question

If there is no lintel on the top of the door (i.e. it is just an opening from one room to another) do you newed a mezuzah? I thought that you had to leave the mezuzot for free if a Jew moved in, but in your answer to Leila you said she could charge the new tenant. If you can open the refrigerator even though it causes the engine to turn on faster, why can't you use hot water on Shabbat, which causes other water to enter the boiler?

1) No 2) Correct 3) The fridge compressor turns on earlier instead of in ten minutes, actually in 5 minutes. That is OK, because it's called a "Gerama," an indirect action. When you turn on the hot water, that second you are letting in cold water into the boiler and instantly cooking it. This is a direct action, not a Gerama. Aaron Abadi
