Microphones on Shabbos

Question

Rabbi, I was at a shul this shabbat that used a microphone that they said was halachically permissible for use on shabbat. Since I am not versed in the specifics of the relevant halachot, I chose to leave the shul rather than stay. My decision to leave was due also to fact that the mechitza was very low and did not appear kosher (men and women on the same floor level with a waist high mechitza). Is there such a thing as a kosher-for-shabbat-use microphone? Is it correct to leave a shul based on a low mechitza (unkosher)? Does that call into question the overall "kashrus" of the shul, eg can I go into the shul for other functions? eat at a kiddush over there? Also, can an orthodox shul not meet halachic requirements and still be called orthodox? or does not following halacha necessarily mean that a shul is not orthodox? Is orthodoxy measured by level of observance or is it a philosophy? How does one determine if a shul is conservative or conservadox? Thank you.
