Question

R' Abadi, With all due respect I hear the point you made regarding immediate family and negiah- the example that you compared it to though I think might be a little harsh- although I do understand your implication of the hallachic response to transgression that you are getting at... Isn't it true of our generation that everyone is ta'ame since we don't have a Beis HaMigdash? As well- what if you have family that is so removed from yiddishkeit that it would in fact make a Khil Hashem to refuse to give that 1 second hug (I don't come from a touchy feely family at all and I happen to live on the other side of the state from them- and so the amount of contact would be few and far between and thus it just seems so strange to have to make them that much more uncomfortable with yiddishkeit by taking such a strong stance- ESPECIALLY if I know that my extended family already thinks that Judaism is archaic and sexist (which no one can talk them out of)... MY POINT is that I am not sure why hallachically I have to isolate my family when it seems like the inyin of negiah in our times is more theoretical than applied... Please help me understand this and thank you!! Ezra
