Nusach Ari

Question

the Ari says you should not wear a talit at night, meaning that in places that hold like the Ari, the maariv Shiliach zibbor doesn't wear a talit. Instead he wears a hat (so that his head's covered) I don't hold like the Ari, and I never even heard of this minhag until recently. I also don't wear a hat for davening. If I am asked to daven maariv in a place like that should I: 1 - Say no 2 - Insist on covering my head with a talis, and not a hat 3 - Borrow someones hat What happens if I am g-d forbid a chiyuv, and I'm in a place like that? If you answer that I should follow the minhag of the place, I have a stack of other questions...
