Question

A bunch of women in my neighborhood gather weekly to say tehillim. Each time, they divide up the book, and finish it. Then a mee sheberach is said for all the cholim. It's a set thing, ie, it's not done with any particular cholim in mind. Is this a laudable practice? Should it be discouraged? What's the proper argument to use against it?

Do they pray three times a day? Do they keep all their other requirements? Do they cover their hair in public? If everything else is perfect and they are reading it and knowing the words that they are reading, and they are using the reading to open their hearts and do Teshuva, and they have in mind that the Zechut of their actions should help in any possible way any sick people, then maybe. But I don't think that we are anywhere near reality on this one.
