orange rind

Question

I have a number of recipes that call for grated orange rind. A friend commented that she heard that there may be insect-derived ingredients added to oranges as they grow that make the fruit's color more beautiful, and that these additives are not removed by washing the exterior of the fruit. Is this true? I know there is a "heimish" brand of dried orange rinds available, but the freshly grated peel adds a much better flavor. If this is a problem, would using organic oranges make a difference in this matter? Thank you, CLKL

Ignore that friend. If it were true, it would not be a problem. AA
