Dear Rabbi: I was trying to find an explanation in English of the phrase you keep quoting, "Stam Keilim Ainum Beney Yoman and therefore it is Notein Taam Lifgam", but I wasn't able to find it. My Hebrew is not yet on the level t understand it. Can you please explain the concept. Thanks, Felix

Answered by Aaron AbadiA pot used in the last 24 hours for non-kosher that I use now for kosher food, makes my food not kosher for me. Standard pots, pans, & utensils etc. are considered as if they have not been used for a 24 hour period for a non-kosher item or dairy/meat issues, unless you are certain that they were used for that. As long as we are not sure that they were used, it is acceptable. The reason is because it gives a bad flavor. The leftover residual flavor of last night's pork will not enhance your eggs in the morning. If it was 24 hours, it will certainly be a bad flavor. If it might have been less, it's still Ok, because most flavors like that spoil almost immediately. If we know for sure that it was used in the 24 hour period, then we go the extra step to be strict just in case. AA
