Pets and Hametz

Question

In your answer regarding pet food, you pointed out that there is a question regarding oats being hametz, and there is therefore no reason for the dog to be strict. But what about the fact that the oats are in the Jew's possession? Why don't we say safek de-oraita le-humra and on the basis of this forbid one to keep the dog food on Pesah?
