Swimming on Shabbat

Question

I thought the reason you couldn't swim on Shabbat is because of a gezerah that you might build a raft. Are you distinguishing between swimming on a lake and in a pool? Also, what's the problem if the bathing suit absorbs the water? Don't people know enough not to squeeze it out?
