Pidyon Haben

Kavod Harav: How does one determine the Bachur for purposes of a Pidyon Haben? Does it go by the mother or the father? If one adopts a child for the first time before having any natural children of their own and it is a boy is that considered a Bachur? If so, should one make a pidyon haben with a brachah if the natural birth father already made the pidyon haben? What if upon adoption there is a doubt as to whether a pidyon was performed by the natural birth father and the mother has not made a pidyon herself, is one obligated to do so?
