Rashba and Bitul

Question

Rashba is explicit that if non-Jewish wine is inserted into a pickling brine, even though there is no taste of the wine or vinegat, it is forbidden to eat it. He gives the general rule that it is forbidden to eat any food in which a non-kosher product is normally included, even if the non-kosher amount is miniscule. According to him (and Rabad) it is only permissible if it is done accidentally. (Rashba's point about wine seems to contradict what he earlier says that it is not batel if it is an essential part of the mixture, which everyone would agree with) See however Noda Bi-Yehudah tinyana nos. 56-57 who cites opposing views.
