Doesn't shuchan aruch forbid clapping on shabbat?

Yes, but that was relevant in an era where when they clapped it brought the people to pull out their musical instruments & play. The actual Gezera (rabbinical decree) was not to play musical instruments. Now that this completely does not apply, we are only stuck with the original Gezera of not playing musical instruments. AA
